First Edition. Bound in the original blue cloth with debossed rule to covers and gilt particulars to spine. Biography of Commodore Josiah Tattnall, who served in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the Civil War on the side of the Confederate Army. Previously in the collection of the Annapolis Public Library, from which it was released in 1880. Contains several previous owners' names and bookplates to front endpages. Page 183 has been cut or torn and was repaired by a previous owner with tape which has now yellowed. This does not impact readability of text. Cataloguing note in white to spine. Boards are lightly soiled; light wear to extremeties. Text block is lightly soiled. Binding is tight and square. Book is covered in a protective mylar jacket.
