Red cloth over boards with decorative gilt vines and gilt-debossed titling in cream compartment to spine and front board. Pages have a few small spots of soiling to margins of a few pages throughout, and moderate scattered soiling and a few spots of moderate foxing to page xix of introduction. Text remains clean and legible. Decorative endpages have previous owner's writing and spot of soiling to top edge of front pastedown, and very light foxing to top edge of rear endpages with pen marking to top edge of rear pastedown. Illustrated plates remain clean, bright and unmarked. All edges sprayed red. Text block has light soiling to lower edge, rubbing to lower corner, and moderate sunning to fore edge and top edge. Light rubbing to fore edge and soiling to top edge. Boards have moderate rubbing to the edges, moderate to heavy tarnishing to gilt decorations and titling, light black marking to center of title compartment to front board. Heavy sunning to spine, and moderate bumping, rubbing and light fraying to corners and ends of spine. Binding is sound, previous owner's tape repairs to inner hinges. Clear plastic dust jacket is in very good condition with light to moderate scattered scuffing.
