Signed by the author and inscribed to "P.S. 24" at title page. A rare ex-library book from the school library of P.S. 24 in New York, which later became the Harlem Renaissance School. Pictorial cloth boards with navy titling and red star to spine. Previous library stamp to lower edge of copyright page, and faint spot of soiling to fore edge of two Table of Contents pages. Pages and illustrations are otherwise clean and unmarked. Endpages have moderate tanning to front endpages, pen marking to top corner of first free endpaper, and moderate markings to last free endpaper where likely a previous library check-out slip has been removed. Text block has light scuff to lower edge, and top edge is sprayed blue with light to moderate fading particularly near spine. Boards are clean and bright with small indented scuff to fore edge of front board near top edge, light rubbing to edges and corners, moderate bump to lower corner of front board and tail of spine; closed tears to headcap and short closed tear starting at top edge of front outer hinge. Binging is tight, spine is slightly cocked.
