Inscribed and signed by Baldwin to Bobby Sharp and his mother, Eva. Jazz pioneer Bobby Sharp wrote his classic 1964 composition “Blues for Mr Charlie” as a tribute to James Baldwin and his groundbreaking play. Black cloth over boards with light blue titling to spine and light blue author's name to front board. Pages are clean and unmarked. Endpages have blue stamp to first free endpaper, and faint dampstain to top edge of rear pastedown. Text block has light sunning to lower edge and fore edge, moderate sunning to top edge with heavy soiling near spine, and light scuffing and faint spots of soiling to fore edge. Boards have light sunning to lower edge, but are otherwise clean and unmarked with light bumping to top corners and moderate bumping to lower corners. Binding is tight and square. Dust jacket has light scattered scuffing from shelf wear, dampstain with discoloration at rear cover along spine, creasing and closed tear to top edge; creasing and rubbing to edges, corners and ends of spine. Spot of moderate rubbing to lower corner of front cover, chipping to top corners and tail of spine, and chip to top edge near corner with tearing of black cover from corner of front cover. Dust jacket is covered in a protective mylar jacket.
